A Travellerspoint blog

My turn!!

by Colleen

From Port Augusta we continued to Coober Pedy, via Woomera (the boys loved this place) and Pimba!!!!!!! Pimba is where I had my first encounter with the locals...need I say more? Maybe, but I won't, not suitable for the blog!

Coober Pedy

Okay I'm giving the kids a small break, being easter & school hols. So I am going to give you a snap shot of what we have done so far. Hopefully I don't double up on what the kids have said, or their photos.
Coober Pedy was a querky town. We had finally hit the hot days, the nights being slightly cooler, usually just around sunrise. Temp in the mid to high 30's. We did the Old Timers Mine, it's not for old timers, it's an old mine!!! We all had a "noodle" (fossick) in the mullock (waste heaps) for stones...lots of fun. There are heaps of holes and piles of dirt and these home made looking machines called "blowers", they look like a truck with a drum on the back. We went to an underground cafe...first one since leaving, and yes the rehab is going ok now...but the withdrawl headaches! The dog fence and the Breakaways are something to be seen.
Greg & I take turns in driving, there is heaps of nothing out there, and it is such a straight road, boy do those roadtrains go fast.

See Mrs Dickinson, Miss Heritage & class mates, they are doing some maths. By the way thank you to everyone who has left a comment. The kids get such a kick that you are actually reading the blog and keeping up with their travels.
